RIM's BlackBerry User Base Grows by 2 Million

Canada's RIM, which revealed details about its upcoming mobile platform on Tuesday, BlackBerry 10, is struggling on the whole, but is doing quite well in the developing markets.

Thanks to sales in those markets, the company managed to boost its global user base by 2 million, the Financial Times reports.

Sharp to Cut 11,000 Jobs by March 2014

Sharp has increased the projected number of layoffs in an attempt to return to profitability by 2014, Kyodo News reports.

The company will cut 10,966 jobs (nearly 20% of its 57,170-strong workforce) by March 2014, and sell various assets, ultimately saving $2.7 billion.

Nexus 7 Comes to Japan

Google's Nexus 7 is now available in Japan through Google Play and select retailers. The 16GB model costs about $312 -- slightly higher than in the U.S., where it retails for $299.

Books on Google Play also debuted in Japan, meaning customers can enjoy "thousands" of Japanese titles on their Android devices, PCs and tablets.

Yahoo Replaces CFO Tim Morse

Google CEO Marissa Mayer announced that she will replace Chief Financial Officer Tim Morse with Ken Goldman, who is currently CFO at computer security company Fortinet.

The New York Times quotes analysts who claim the move means Yahoo is getting ready to expand through acquisitions and new investments.
