When Sarah and I first sit down to think about recipes for upcoming Everyday Food videos, I almost always start with a theme.

Will Sarah talk about "firing up the grill?" this week? Or perhaps focus on recipes that are?"marvelous and meatless"? As?EDF's?culinary producer, these are the questions that follow me around, day-in and day-out, week after week, all year long.

Which brings us to today. Did you realize that Sarah's been focused on creating crowd-friendly recipes since Monday? Grilled kebabs, a hefty vegetable sandwich, out-of-this-world jerk chicken wings, and a tender and sweet pork shoulder -- all of these meals are perfect for entertaining a big group this summer. So I kept that theme in mind while dreaming up this week's Cocktail O'Clock recipe. Today, I'm tossing some of my favorite flavors into a pitcher to create one of the most refreshing drinks around: White Sangria.

To really take this from a tasty beverage to a next-level cocktail, I've added Pavan, a French Liqueur that imbues sweet depth to the other ingredients. Try it if you can! But if you can't find it, feel free to swap in triple sec. Remember that one of the best parts about making sangria is that, while it looks fancy, it doesn't require expensive wine. Use what you've got nearby and experiment with different options as the season progresses. Also, keep in mind that the layers of flavor in this drink are best tasted when they have time to develop -- make it a few hours before serving so you can let your seasonal fruit really work its magic! Enjoy with friends and say cheers to summer.

Makes 1 Pitcher
Combine 1/2 honeydew melon cut into cubes, 1/2 thinly sliced English cucumber, 1/4 cup Pavan, and 1/2 cup tequila in a pitcher. Let soak 1 hour up to overnight. Top with 1 bottle (750 mL) white wine and serve with ice.
